Oman by UTMB 50KM Run Al Hamra

Oman by UTMB is my dream as I have been training to participate in this event for a long time and now the day has come that I will be running an ultra-trail along mountain top ridges, through ancient villages, palm plantations, deep wadis and scenic gorges.

I will be exploring the Sultanate’s hidden gems located deep within its atmospheric and untouched landscape and there are many runners who will doing this race.

Oman by UTMB

Oman by UTMB is one of world’s toughest races. This year on 28th November, 2019 I will be running my first ever 50KM race.

Though there are three distances in Oman by UTMB Race i.e; 50km, 130km and 170km but I will be doing 50k as this will be my first after Marathon 42.195km.

50K Ultra Marathon

UTMB has 2nd Version in Oman but 50 kilometer is introduced only this year in 2019, with an elevation gain of 2300m+ which is Perfect for me to try, as I have never tried long distance running so far.

My longest on flat road is 42.195 km and trail on mountain in Wadi Bani Awf is 32km. This trail run will help me to experience all the thrills of the UTMB adventure.

Mountains in Oman are great as Oman’s cool mountains cover approximately 15% of the Sultanate’s landmass.

UTMB Challenge in Oman

In its second year, Oman by UTMB® offers three rugged and challenging courses through the mountainous terrain around Jebel Akhdar, the famous Green Mountain, my fellow runners and I are joining 50KM race and some are joining 130km and 170km too.

There are many people who are interested to participate in this race as this is getting popular. Therefore, UTMB introduced 3 more distances 10k, 5k and 2k.

UTMB Oman Race Details for 50K

Off the road track for 50k will be Oman’s dramatic Al Hajar mountain range with its soaring peaks, technical climbs, deep wadis, and narrow gorges. There are some difficult to access sections, including exposed climbs, the which will require self-sufficiency and confidence at elevation.

It is expected that temperatures ranging at start and finish point 25°C and it will drop 10°C and less in the mountains and overnight. As the race for 50k will start morning 7am and I am targetting to finish before evening as many of the runners will do.

50K will start November 29 from Al Hamra, though the challenge is tough but relatively short as compare to 130k and 170k and 50k also has limited limited technical sections.

Route Map and Tutorial to Update Garmin Watch for course

Route Map was confirmed in September and runners were informed. I have made a tutorial that helps runners to download and install the GPX file for this course and generally for any course or your own run.
